When our CEO, Ian, asked the team back in March at our town hall meeting, “What would you like to see at Itential?,” I knew right away that social involvement, volunteer activities, and giving back to our community are collective passions that run true in the people of our company.
I always knew and appreciated that Itential cares for its people. But the fact that the company’s leadership supports our involvement from both a time and monetary standpoint, showed me that we also care for our community, and its people in need. For us, it adds a new level of meaningfulness to working for Itential.
On the morning of Saturday, June 30th 2018, 15 Itentialites plus a couple of baby pronghorns (Itentialite kids), met in Lovejoy, GA for a day of volunteering at Habitat for Humanity that included painting the outside of newly built homes, clearing construction debris, and landscaping. We received a short orientation from Kiera, our wonderful Volunteer Coordinator from the Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity branch, that provided some insight on what the non-profit organization does. We even got to meet the homeowners of the houses we were helping with.
The Georgia heat of late June didn’t make the job any easier, but the purpose was worth the struggle. As a network automation company, we used our skillsets and motivation to increase efficiency to accomplish all the planned work before the scheduled end of our workday so we had more time to complete extra tasks from their to-do list. It was incredibly fulfilling to spend the day with the future owners of the homes we’ve helped to build and to see their appreciation for our commitment and effort.
By the end of the day we were exhausted, but satisfied from our accomplishments. We’ll never forget the look on their faces when they say their freshly painted homes for the first time. It was a great opportunity to give back to the community by helping Habitat for Humanity build affordable housing for low income families. If anyone is looking to organize this kind of activity, I highly recommend looking into your local Habitat for Humanity branch as our overall experience was great from start to finish.
Here’s to our next volunteer day!
